Glossy Cherry Powder Coat

Powder coating paint is a dry finishing process that applies a free-flowing, dry powder, unlike traditional liquid paints, typically using an electrostatic charge to adhere the powder to a surface, which is then cured with heat. This method creates a durable, high-quality finish resistant to chips, scratches, and fading. The powder consists of pigments, resins, and other additives, resulting in a smooth, long-lasting, and often more environmentally friendly coating compared to solvent-based liquid paints. Cures at 350–375°F (177–191°C) for 10–12 minutes. Epoxy-polyester hybrids have similar ranges but with better weatherability.

Key benefits

Powder coating is a popular choice for industrial and consumer products due to its numerous advantages over traditional liquid paint.

  • Durability: The finish is tough and highly resistant to scratches, chipping, fading, and corrosion.
  • Environmentally friendly: Since it contains no solvents, it releases negligible amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the atmosphere.
  • Efficiency: Oversprayed powder can be collected and reused, leading to less waste and higher material utilization (up to 98%).
  • Wide range of finishes: The powder can create a variety of effects and textures, including gloss, matte, metallic, and wrinkled finishes.
  • Consistency: The electrostatic application provides a more uniform coating thickness without drips, runs, or sags, which are common issues with liquid paints.
  • Cost-effective: While initial equipment costs are higher, the speed of application, reduced labor, and lack of wasted material make it more economical over time.
